The Power of Creative Expression:
Bringing Purpose, Joy and Connection
October 14th, 2024
A wise 100-year-old man once shared, “My secret to longevity is to keep active—physically, socially, and by learning something new every day.” This philosophy highlights the vital importance of staying active, both physically and mentally, especially in older age. For seniors, especially those in 55+ communities, Active Living, and Assisted Living homes, programs that engage and stimulate both mind and body can make a profound difference in their overall well-being.
At Young at Heart, we believe that learning and staying active are key to a fulfilling and happier life in any stage, particularly in old age. Our art events are designed with this belief at their core, providing more than just a creative outlet; they offer purpose, promote self-expression, and foster social interaction. These events stimulate cognitive functions, reduce stress, and provide a sense of personal growth and accomplishment. The positive impact extends beyond individual benefits, creating a warm, uplifting environment for everyone involved—residents, staff, and even family members.

Empowering Seniors Through Art
Our vision is to empower seniors to express themselves through art, reminding them that it’s never too late to try something new or rekindle a forgotten passion. Whether it’s the joy of mixing colors on a palette or the satisfaction of finishing a masterpiece, we strive to inspire seniors to embrace their creativity and feel a renewed sense of purpose.
Young at Heart aims to become the leading provider of innovative and cost-effective art programming in 55+ communities, Active Living, and Assisted Living homes across Ontario, Canada. We work closely with Program Managers and Regional Program Managers to develop partnerships and secure contracts with care facilities, bringing our events directly to the communities that need them most.

Creating Opportunities for Artists and Expanding Our Reach
In addition to enriching the lives of seniors, Young at Heart offers a meaningful platform for talented artists to share their skills and make a living as art instructors. Our team of skilled instructors ensures that each event is engaging, high-quality, and tailored to suit the unique needs of seniors. We’re expanding our reach, bringing art to more locations and, ultimately, more seniors.
An Inclusive and Accessible Art Experience
Our art events cater to all skill levels, ensuring that every participant feels welcome—whether they’ve painted before or are picking up a brush for the first time. By fostering a supportive, inclusive environment, Young at Heart enhances the well-being and happiness of every participant, ensuring that no one is left behind.
When family members see the artistic achievements of their loved ones, it brings them peace of mind. Displaying the artwork in their homes not only showcases their loved ones' talents but also assures them that they are actively engaged and cared for in a meaningful way. Staff members at the care facilities celebrate these creative successes, contributing to a positive and uplifting atmosphere within the home.

Convenience and Comfort: Brining Art To Their Doorstep
One of the greatest advantages of Young at Heart’s art events is that they take place right in the comfort of 55+ communities, Active Living, and Assisted Living homes. This is crucial for seniors who may face mobility challenges or transportation difficulties. By eliminating the need for costly transportation, especially for those in wheelchairs, our program ensures that everyone can participate.
Our experienced and motivating art instructors handle all the setup, providing participants with paints, brushes, canvases, and step-by-step guidance on themed painting projects. Whether bi-monthly, weekly, or monthly, each event concludes with a completed masterpiece that participants can proudly display—or, as we like to joke, “sell for millions,” always bringing a chuckle to the room.
At Young at Heart, we are not just offering art events. We are creating joyful experiences, sparking creativity, and fostering connections that brighten lives.
